Employment Opportunities

CSDC generally hires on a contract basis, which means employees are assigned to specific clients and projects. Those projects could take a matter of hours or last for several years. The following employment categories are used at CSDC. Below this list, you'll find minimum qualification requirements.

Software Developer/Programmer  This employment category is responsible for research, design, development, alpha testing, and implementation of custom applications. Also serves as a beta tester for other employees' applications. Serves as the client's first line of communication and provides ongoing technical assistance and support to assigned clients.
Internet Design and Support This employment category is responsible for the research, design, development, alpha testing, and implementation of websites. Serves as the first line of communication and provides ongoing technical assistance and support for clients' websites.
Network and Hardware Specialist This employment category is responsible for the installation of LANs, including the setup of Windows NT and 2000, email accounts, and connectivity issues.Serves as a consultant for the purchasing of hardware required (i.e., cabling). Also provides technical support and assistance on an ongoing basis for network-related issues. 
Graphics Artist The duties of the Graphics Artist is varied, and can include the development of artwork for custom applications, for use in client websites, and/or for use in documentation and materials supporting custom applications. 
Technical Writer The technical writer is responsible for the development of documentation and materials supporting custom applications. Requires an advanced knowledge of various programming languages, and must be able to develop manuals for novice through advanced levels. Also requires coordination with the software developers and programmers, software instructors, and technical support staff.
Software Instructor The software instructor is responsible for training clients' staffs on the use of custom applications, in a classroom setting and/or individual basis. Also serves as a secondary contact for technical support issues. 
Data Management Services Technician  This employment category is responsible for maintaining data for clients, primarily involving the electronic transfer of data into large databases and providing initial information on volume and type of data uploaded. Also serves as support staff on data management issues. 

Each category requires a minimum of three years' experience in the language or software used for development, instruction, documentation, and support, or three years' experience in networking and associated programs/hardware. For senior levels, a minimum of eight years experience is required.

What's the Difference Between a Contractor and Employee?

CSDC uses both contractors and employees. To qualify as a contractor, you must meet ALL of the requirements below. These guidelines were established by the IRS (checklist 31):

1. You know how work is to be performed, without supervision.
2. You don't need to be trained, but already possess the skills necessary to do the job. 
3. Your tasks are not integrated into normal business operations. 
4. Your services do not have to be personally rendered.
5. You are responsible for hiring, paying, or supervising your assistants.
6. You do not have a continuing relationship with CSDC (i.e., daily basis).
7. Your working hours are not set by CSDC.
8. You are not required to devote full-time efforts to CSDC.
9. You do not perform or execute duties on CSDC's premises.
10. Your services do not conform to an order or sequence set by CSDC.
11. You are not required to submit regular oral or written reports.
12. Your payment is based on the job performed.
13. You are not reimbursed for travel or other expenses.
14. You are not furnished tools, materials, or other equipment by CSDC.
15. You have an investment in your own facilities, outside of CSDC.
16. You do have a risk of real economic loss.
17. You are working for more than one client at a time, outside of CSDC.
18. You do make your services available to the general public.
19. You are subject to discharge without "employer" penalty - even if the job specifications are met.
20. You can not terminate the relationship without worker liability.

In addition, CSDC has the following criteria that must be met before considering an individual as a 
contractor vs. an employee:

1. 
You must have established a company and have the necessary business licenses. 
2.We prefer working with a corporation vs. a sole proprietorship.
3.You have a separate telephone number for your business and a separate listing in the telephone book.
4.You are responsible for withholding taxes and benefits such as insurance.
5.CSDC is not your sole income.
